We are opening our doors for an afternoon full of art, conversation, and studio tours. Stop by to explore the workspaces, meet the artists, and see what everyone has been working on lately—from works in progress to finished pieces.

The group exhibition "Lumen" at Schloss Biesdorf in Berlin presents works by 30 artists from the Netherlands and Germany, including Elena Karakitsou from Treptow-Ateliers, from August 4 to November 2, 2025. Curated by Römer + Römer, the show explores the theme of light in its diverse manifestations – from sunlight and artificial light to technological and atmospheric moments. Light is examined as both material and a bearer of meaning, creating presence, casting shadows, and setting accents. Admission is free, and the vernissage takes place on August 3, 2025, at 6 PM.

The OPEN STUDIOS Treptow invite you to their Open Studios day on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This occasion celebrates the one-year anniversary of the studios' relocation from Rathenauhallen to Wilhelminenhofstrasse 76/77 in Schöneweide. Visitors are warmly invited to experience this new beginning and discover a variety of works by resident artists and other community members. Access is via Platz am Kaisersteg / Lauffener Straße.

The Brückenfest will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 12 PM to 9 PM. Under the motto "Brücken statt Mauern" (Bridges instead of Walls), the SchöneVibes Kollektiv e. V. is organizing a series of events. Treptow-Ateliers e.V. will participate and open their studios to the public. Visitors can discover works by numerous artists at Platz am Kaisersteg, Wilhelminenhofstraße 76/77, and twelve other locations in Ober- and Niederschöneweide.

The exhibition “Value of a place” at Kulturhaus Baumschulenweg (22.05.-31.07.2025) explores how a location gains significance through human energy and creative work. It showcases works by artists from Treptow-Ateliers e.V., which was founded in 2012. In late 2018, they lost their original studio due to demolition plans and had to search for a new, affordable location. Although they found a new home in a former factory in 2023, it is more expensive and uncertain, posing challenges for many members. The exhibition intertwines the group's past and present, highlighting their creative spirit and ongoing struggle to preserve their workplace.

The OPEN STUDIOS Treptow Ateliers will once again open their doors on Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 11 AM to 6 PM, after a two-year break. Over 50 ateliers, including Atelierhaus 79, BBK, and XTRO ateliers, will welcome visitors at Wilhelminenhofstraße 83-85 on the Rathenauhallen grounds. Guests can experience a wide range of visual arts from international artists, including painting, graphics, object art, installation, film, and photography. The event, organized by Ursula Heermann-Jensen and Anett Münnich, offers a unique opportunity to encounter art where it is created and to find special Christmas gifts.

The group exhibition "BLIND VISION," initiated by Matthias Mayer and Maik Schierloh, illuminates the precarious spatial situation of artists in Berlin. It specifically addresses the fate of the Treptow-Ateliers studio community: displaced from Mörikestraße in 2018, the 26 artists found interim use in the Rathenau-Hallen in 2020. However, this provisional solution is ending again, as they must vacate by the end of the year. The exhibition criticizes Berlin's "blind vision" – a city that uses artists for its image but offers them no long-term perspective, even though they stick together in solidarity.

Treptow Ateliers, an international group of artists, must vacate their current studios by the end of 2022 and urgently require a new, affordable workspace. Their proposal to utilize a vacant, city-owned building at Wilhelminenhofstraße 90A was submitted to the Berlin Senate but received no feedback, nor did an open letter to Culture Senator Klaus Lederer. To mobilize support and draw attention to their cause, they launched a "Mail Art Action." Participants create postcards with drawings or images that are sent directly to the Culture Senator, to reinforce their desire for a new space.

The Kollektive Treptow Ateliers are evidently facing challenges as they receive only little support. The available indication suggests that certain external factors or circumstances are not beneficial to the studios, and they experience hardly any effective help. This situation implies that the continued existence or successful work of the artists' community is potentially complicated. Although the precise circumstances or the source of this lack of helpfulness are not elaborated upon, the core message is a problematic situation for this Berlin-based studio collective. Treptow-Ateliers at its END 26 artists of the Treptow Ateliers must vacate their temporary studios at Wilhelminenhofstraße 83-85 on January 15, 2023, which could signify the end of another Berlin artists' house. This occurs despite the artists having submitted a concept two and a half years ago, supported by all factions, to self-renovate a nearby vocational school (Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a) that has been vacant for 13 years, which would have been financed by a non-profit bank. Cultural Senator Dr. Klaus Lederer rejected the plan, even though the coalition agreement prioritizes securing artistic spaces. Given the loss of an average of 350 affordable studios annually in Berlin, the situation for the artists is precarious.

The Treptow Ateliers (@treptow_ateliers_ev) hosted the "Waxing Phases" event on July 22, 2022, under the title "FAREWELL Treptow Ateliers." This unique artistic and experimental gathering aimed to explore creative potential and reflect on space and art. It featured live music performances and art installations designed to create a total immersion into art. Curated by ASERET ] and @silviar49, this immersive experience took place in the historical Halle of the Treptow Ateliers in Schöneweide.

The group exhibition "FARE FORWARD", organized by Treptow Ateliers e.V., will take place from July 22nd to 24th, 2022, at Treptow Ateliers. The opening is on Friday, July 22nd, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Regular opening hours are Saturday, July 23rd, and Sunday, July 24th, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM each day. Numerous artists, including Michele Caliari, Sabatino Cersosimo, and Chiara Dazi, are presenting their works. This event offers a diverse platform for artistic exchange in Berlin.

On May 7, 2022, a happening took place in front of the vacant building Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a. The discussion focused on the necessity of preserving neighborhood meeting points, commercial units, and art production sites in the district. The years of vacancy and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe's rejection of a self-financed usage concept without discussion caused great indignation. Participants demand transparent and solution-oriented strategies to preserve artist communities rooted in the neighborhood. A Mail-Art campaign for Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a will continue, and participation is welcome.

A group exhibition titled "FRIDAY THE 13TH" will open on Friday, May 13th, 2022, at 6 PM at the Treptow-Ateliers (+DEDE) in Berlin. The exhibition alludes to the widespread superstition and fear associated with this date, a day that an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the US are affected by, sometimes preventing them from going about their normal routines. Works by eight artists will be shown: Wie-Yi T.Lauw, Alice Morey, Natalia Korotyaeva, Jill Kiddon, Felix Oehmann, Flavio Degen, Alessandro Rauschmann, and Agostino Artese. Additionally, there will be an AV Live Set by Twin Towerz and an afterparty to complete the event.

Art is fun. Art excites, art dreams and smacks. Art connects and rubs. It chews and spits, criticizes and ensnares. It is beautiful and joyful, combining tragedy and comedy. Art begins in spaces. When the space is gone, the art is gone. We, the artist community Treptow-Ateliers e.V., have been striving since 2018 to achieve long-term security for our workplaces and to prevent our displacement. Our previous location in Mörikestraße, which we had to leave in the summer of 2020, has been a yawning, empty space for over a year. Our current location, the Rathenau-Hallen on Wilhelminenhofstraße, is a only temporary solution until construction begins. Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a, a former upper-secondary school, has been empty for more than 15 years. The building belongs to the state of Berlin. More than two years ago, we approached the state of Berlin with a self-financed renovation and utilization plan. Despite many supporters from the district and the state of Berlin, we are still denied access and use. We cordially invite you to an art happening in front of Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a. We would like to playfully re-imagine the building together with you. There will be an open-air exhibition and actions. We will serve cake and drinks. Together we will rub, smack, develop visions and excite with art.

As part of "KUNST MACHT SPASS," artist Matteo Peterlini invites participants to an open call and Mail Art workshop at Treptow-Ateliers. On April 30th, 2022, at 4 pm, attendees will learn how Mail Art serves as a historical, decentralized system for directly expressing thoughts. They will create artworks on postcards with messages against hate and racism, which will be sent to Berlin institutions. For those missing the workshop, postcards with instructions can be picked up daily from April 30th to May 6th, between 5 pm and 6 pm. The aim is to foster creative communication and civic engagement.

The ‘Opening Hours’ of the Treptow Ateliers, organized by fünfter Löffel, took place on Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 4 PM to 3 AM. Canberk Akçal, Matteo Kramer, Barış Öner, and Emre Saruhan curated specific rooms such as the Living Room_fL, the Garden of Performance, Die Bühne, and The Pink Living Rooms. Invited initiatives included the Kleine Humboldt Galerie, Blue Star Project Space, Neuköllner Saloon e.V., and the Familie-Gruppe (Max Linnenschmidt/Ribana Schmidt/Andreas Szczurowsk).

The Treptow-Ateliers e.V. has been fighting displacement from Berlin for three years due to a lack of affordable studio spaces. Their self-financed concept to convert a state-owned property at Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a, vacant for 15 years, into 25 affordable studios was rejected by Senator Lederer, citing the principle of equality, despite the absence of Senate alternatives. The artists sharply criticize this stance, as the city simultaneously provides the Tempelhof Airport Hangar rent-free to a financially strong Bonn-based foundation. They demand the provision of the Wilhelminenhofstraße property to protect local artists and ensure transparent and swift utilization of vacant state-owned properties.

Join Elena Karakitsou's cyanotype workshop "The Unseen Eyebeam" on Sunday, December 12th, from 12:00 to 18:30 in Berlin-Schöneweide. Participants will learn to create unique blue prints on paper and textile using various techniques like photograms or digital negatives, and explore toning with natural ingredients. No prior experience is needed, and all materials are provided. The workshop, limited to five participants, costs 90€ (55€ for reduced fare) and aims to equip attendees with skills for their artistic practice. Register via email or phone.

The exhibition "WHY WHY?" by fårce RAIK, presented at the Treptow Ateliers from September 24 to 26, 2021, addresses the fear of losing one's political, moral, and ethical compass. It poses fundamental questions about values, environmental protection, and civilized communication. A central element is a forest of burnt signposts whose destinations are barely recognizable. The art utilizes the traditional method of charring wood – known from Japan and Scandinavia – for preservation, reflecting human nature that simultaneously preserves and destroys. This raises the question of where our journey is heading.

The memorial exhibition "MENSCH ARNO, SIEHSTE…!" at the Treptow Ateliers honors photographer Arno Fischer on the 10th anniversary of his death, presented by his master students. The vernissage takes place on Friday, September 10, from 4 PM to 9 PM. The exhibition is open daily from September 11 to 13, from 2 PM to 8 PM, with a finissage on Monday, September 13, from 4 PM to 9 PM. Visitors must observe pandemic-related regulations such as mandatory masks, 1.5-meter social distancing, and provide proof of vaccination, recovery, or a negative PCR test, and register upon entry.

The exhibition "Cancelled Order," initiated by Soji Shimizu, presents works by Juka Araikawa, Soji Shimizu, Ryo Shimizu, and Seiko Watanabe on the theme of "withholding." It takes place at the Rathenau Hallen in Oberschöneweide and is open on the weekend of Berlin Art Week and the following weekend. According to the Berlin Senate's regulations, visitors must wear a face mask, maintain a distance of 1.5 meters, and present proof of vaccination, recovery, or a negative PCR test. Registration at the entrance is done via app or form.

The "TERRA" exhibition at Treptow Ateliers, opening November 26, 2021, presents works by Michele Caliari and David Breun. Caliari, a photographer from a mountainous region, explores landscapes phenomenologically, drawing inspiration from 19th-century scientific photography to capture the pureness, beauty, and brutal directness of nature. David Breun showcases high-resolution digital photographs and a video installation titled "Elements." His detailed shots focus on the structures, colors, and minerals of often rough and barren landscapes, revealing a fascinating, subtle beauty even in seemingly inhumane natural environments.

The exhibition "it rains ducks and dogs" at Treptow Ateliers presents works by Rei Matsushima and Zsa Zsa Caniche from September 17 to 26, 2021. Both artists humorously explore the lives of pets from their perspective, asking "Do you belong to somebody?". They describe the animals' desire for extended walks, their reluctance to return, and their daily surprising discoveries. Visitors are invited to explore this unique viewpoint, while observing current COVID-19 regulations of the Berlin Senate, including mandatory masks and proof of status. The vernissage takes place on September 17 from 6-9 pm, with daily opening hours from 1-7 pm (Fridays until 8 pm).

The "Jahrgang 14" final exhibition of the Berlin Ostkreuz School for Photography 2021 presents 18 final projects by its graduates. The works, blending documentary and artistic photography, address important political, social, and personal themes such as military camps in Poland, environmental destruction, mental health, and the Nazi past of one's own family. The exhibition runs from August 28th to September 5th, daily from 12:00 to 20:00, with a vernissage on August 27th at 16:00. A current daily Corona test or proof of vaccination/recovery is required for entry. A varied supporting program with guided tours (prior registration) complements the show.

Artist Franck Rausch presented an exhibition titled "Am Dach steht ein Fenster" at the +DEDE Office, located within the Treptow Ateliers. It took place from August 14 to 15, 2021, with an opening on August 13. Rausch draws inspiration from the everyday, which he conceives as a place of experience and imagination. He extracts fragments and details to blend reality with fantasy, creating worlds that tell of the joys and sorrows of daily life. His works, often on cotton with varying textures, invite viewers to personally interpret the scattered elements.

Artist Hanna Hildebrand will present her ongoing research project "Straße" this upcoming weekend, August 21st and 22nd, at the Rathenau Hallen. This project explores the Oberschöneweide area, a historically significant industrial complex whose rich history reflects the societal dramas of the 20th century and connects with current urban development. Hildebrand's work is based on everyday life, moving from documentation into the imaginary, utilizing diverse media and storytelling. The opening takes place on Friday, August 20th at 6:00 PM, with the exhibition open from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the following days. Visitors are cordially invited to join in conversation over refreshments.

The exhibition "Synthetic transfer zones Treptow Ateliers," presented by +DEDE, takes place from August 14 to 15, 2021, at +DEDE Hall, with an opening on August 13. It features works by Emma Adler, Matti Isan Blind, Tobias König, Alex Lebus, Caroline Streck, and Joshua Zielinski. The works, developed from self-propelled inquiry, are presented in the rugged space of +DEDE, which combines fragility and power. The show explores the transferability of meaning and synergistic effects of the works, serving as a rendezvous of positions in a "field of negotiation."

The group exhibition "DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME" showcases works by members of Treptow-Ateliers e.V. The show takes place from July 23rd to August 1st, 2021. The opening reception is on Friday, July 23rd, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Regular opening hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The exhibition titled "THE HOUSE NOT RIGHT IN THE HEAD" opened on June 11, 2021, from 18:00. It featured works by artists Christel Fetzer, Susanne Kutter, Marco Montiel-Soto, Lorcan O'Byrne, Lydia Paasche, and Markus Willeke. The exhibition was open to visitors on June 12 and 13, 2021, from 14:00 to 19:00 each day.

Soji Shimizus Einzelausstellung vom 23. bis 28. Februar 2021 erforscht die Konventionen der Malerei und des Ausstellens durch Dekonstruktion. Seine Werke, darunter Gemälde, Fotografien, Objekte und Installationen, hinterfragen künstlerische Entscheidungen und Haltungen. Die seit 2019 entstehende Serie „Drive“ thematisiert die vielschichtigen Eigenschaften eines Autos, indem sie dessen private und öffentliche Aspekte sowie seine Bewegung in monochromatischen Bildern darstellt. Diese wechselnden Perspektiven deuten auf ein unklares Subjekt hin und heben die Begrenztheit einer einzigen Ansicht hervor. Aufgrund der Lockdown-Bestimmungen findet die Ausstellung ausschließlich online statt, unterstützt durch Uttzs, einen Dienst aus dem Panasonic Game Changer Catapult Projekt.

Robin Hinsch's exhibition "WAHALA" (meaning "Trouble"), on view from July 2 to 4, 2021, at the Treptow Ateliers, presents the results of his profound photographic research into the global costs of raw material extraction. The renowned Hamburg-based photographer exposes the mechanisms of fossil fuel exploitation, demonstrating that environmental destruction and violence against people are inextricably linked. His work illuminates the "sacrificed zones" of extraction capitalism that have emerged in the Anthropocene, where the "apocalypse" is already an everyday reality. Hinsch compels viewers to overcome the majority society's "not wanting to see" and recognize the brutal reality behind our consumption.

The exhibition "AEG (All energy gone) Treptow Ateliers" took place from June 2nd to 6th, 2021, and was curated by Sara Rossi, with the opening held on June 1st. The event was presented by +DEDE. Participating artists included Sara Rossi, Sarah Rosengarten, Maria Kremeti, Ivan Geddert, Burkhard Beschow, and Felix Amerbacher. This event, held at the Treptow Ateliers, is in the past.

The "ZONING Treptow Ateliers" event took place in June 2021 and presented a film by Flavio Degen and Kosei Takasaki. The main exhibition was open daily from June 2nd to June 6th, 2021, from 2 PM to 8 PM. June 1st might have indicated an opening or a special screening of the film. This past event offered an artistic experience in the Treptow Ateliers.

Christoph Voy's exhibition "It’s dirty, it just looks clean" invites visitors on a sentimental journey through 30 years of Berlin nightlife. Held at pavlov’s dog @ Treptow-Ateliers e.V. from May 28 to 30, 2021, the show highlights Berlin's emergence as the world capital of club culture after the fall of the Wall, driven by pop culture and a new sense of freedom. Amidst the pandemic, it offers a retrospective on the legendary party scene and its vanished venues. Voy's high-contrast photography authentically captures the contradictions and dark side of nightlife, continuing to nourish the myth of Berlin.

The interdisciplinary multimedia exhibition "NO WIN SITUATION" by UdK Berlin presents pessimistic new media art from students and lecturers such as Anan Yoon Lee, Constantin Hartenstein, and others. It explores how humans, by believing in the Anthropocene, create destructive developments like uncontrollable markets and overstrained nature. In response to these conditions, the artists seek forms of expression for the rapid downfall. The non-public online exhibition, running from May 14-16, 2021 (4 PM-9 PM) at nowin.digital, includes a live performance on May 14th at 6 PM.

The "Spring 2021 Show" takes place from April 6 to April 12, 2021, at the Treptow-Ateliers. It is an in-house exhibition presenting approximately 57 works by 14 members of the association. Due to the current Corona situation, the exhibition is not open to the public. Participating artists include Emiliano Baiocchi, Michele Caliari, and Chiara Dazi, among others. This exhibition offers an exclusive insight into the current creative work of the studio community.

The exhibition "Charming Dismissals Pump Ways Treptow Ateliers" was presented from April 16 to 18, 2021, at the Treptow Ateliers. Organized by +DEDE, the show took place daily from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. It featured works by artists Jake Kent, Lana Duval, Julià Panadès, and Wieyi T. Lauw. This event has already concluded.

The group exhibition "ADVENTURES BEYOND THE ULTRAWORLD" at the Rathenau Hallen Schöneweide (March 26-27) features works by ten artists from Berlin, Hamburg, and London. It invites visitors on a journey into another dimension, set in a future time where today's relics are displayed. The show combines diverse media: a monolith installation, compost compositions from electronic waste, colorful plastic objects, fractured TV screens, and abstract paintings. These works create the atmosphere of a "beautiful apocalypse," where everyday objects silently bear witness to another time. Performances by KlaRco and The New Coma accompany the opening.

The exhibition "VOLATILE DISPERSAL" is presented by +DEDE at the Treptow Ateliers. It is scheduled for an opening on October 23rd, with the main event taking place on October 24, 2020, from 10:00 to 22:00. Participating artists include Hannah Fitz, Jill Kiddon, David Martínez Suárez, Gonçalo Sena, and Uynahz Past. Visitors are invited to experience the works of these five artists and enjoy the presentation of contemporary art.

The exhibition "Down by the River" by the Treptow-Ateliers at the Rathenau Hallen in Berlin was the first large-scale presentation at this new location. From October 10th to 18th, 2020, it brought together 27 artists from nine countries (aged 25-59), showcasing painting, sculpture, installation, film, video, photography, performance, and drawing. The show celebrated the artists' collective move from their demolished studio house in Mörikestraße to the Rathenau Hallen and served as an introduction to their new temporary environment. Members of the Treptow-Ateliers e.V. who could not work on-site were also invited. Visitors had to observe pandemic-related regulations such as mandatory masks and social distancing; waiting times were possible.

The Treptow Ateliers are leaving their studio house in Mörikestraße at the end of June after seven and a half years with a heavy heart. After months of searching, an alternative accommodation was found at the last minute in the Rathenau-Hallen in Schöneweide. However, this temporary solution is only secured for a maximum of one and a half years. Therefore, the ateliers will continue to search for a long-term location. Despite the limited term, the relief and joy about the new premises prevail, releasing a lot of shared energy.

The artists of the Treptow Ateliers must vacate their current building in Berlin-Baumschulenweg and are seeking a permanent new location. Their focus is on a vacant school building at Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a, even though Senator Lederer's Senate Cultural Administration remains resistant. To prove the seriousness and feasibility of their project, which enjoys broad support from politics and culture, members have created a feasibility study. This study shows that the Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a site is viable and that the project can be managed. The full study is available as a PDF.

The delegation from Treptow Ateliers, comprised of outstanding artists, visited the Berlinale hoping to meet Helen Mirren and draw attention to their difficult situation. However, Mirren preferred to dedicate her attention to ordinary fans, which the Ateliers considered her mistake and a missed opportunity. Although this “faux pas” only partially delivered the desired media attention, the artists still had a lot of fun. Undistributed flyers are now available online to further highlight their situation.

On February 19, the Tree of Heaven in front of the Treptow atelier house was cut down at the instruction of Peter Ottmann. This measure serves as preparation for the demolition of the house, which is scheduled to take place in June. The residents find it macabre that Mr. Ottmann uses a picture of this very tree on the website to advertise his construction project. They express their sadness over the loss of their "old friend" and are processing their grief with a song.

The Professional Association of Visual Artists Berlin (bbk berlin) supports the Treptow Ateliers' efforts to secure the vacant school at Wilhelminenhofstraße 90a in Oberschöneweide as a long-term studio house. In an open letter, bbk praises the artist collective's constructive endeavors and highlights the severe shortage of studios in Berlin, which the existing Senate studio program does not adequately address. The bbk views this as a forward-looking example of how state-owned properties can be more quickly activated for artistic infrastructure. In the future, studios are to be allocated transparently and verifiably to professional artists, managed by a joint committee.

The Treptow Ateliers held their perhaps last GROUP SHOW at Mörikestraße on February 17th. This exhibition was perceived as very beautiful and aimed to offer a lasting memory to those who attended. Simultaneously, the post served to give those who could not attend an impression of the moments they missed. Impressions from the past weekend are now shared here.

The politician Gregor Gysi recently visited the Treptow Ateliers, accompanied by his constituency employee André Schubert, who is also active for Die Linke in the BVV of Treptow-Köpenick. Although Gysi initially claimed to be only superficially informed about the situation, he proved surprisingly well-versed through targeted questions. He offered his support to the ateliers, promising to intercede on their behalf with his party colleague Klaus Lederer in the Senate Culture Administration, as well as with the landlord Peter Ottmann. This signals a clear commitment to the concerns of the artists in the ateliers.

The owner of the atelier house in Treptow, Peter Ottmann, recently gave an interview to the Berliner Zeitung. The author of the current text prefers not to comment on the content for now, leaving it up to readers to form their own opinions. However, it is clearly emphasized that Mr. Ottmann is definitively wrong on a particular point. A more detailed statement or press release regarding this matter will follow shortly.

The artists of Treptow Ateliers refute owner Peter Ottmann's claim that a solution exists for them in a drama school, as this building is already allocated elsewhere.
